Microsoft Teams: Speaker recognition and attribution for all Teams Rooms MC795749 Published May 24, 2024

In Microsoft Teams, you will be able to enhance hybrid meeting experiences with Teams Rooms and Copilot. We are extending the support of intelligent speaker to all certified microphones to enable Teams rooms to use the advanced technology called speaker recognition to analyze the distinct vocal characteristics of each speaker, such as pitch, tone, and speaking style, to create a voiceprint for each participant, akin to a fingerprint for their voice.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out by mid-June 2024 and expect to complete by late June 2024.

Microsoft Teams: Closed captions in the Walkie Talkie app MC795746 Published May 24, 2024

Coming soon to Microsoft Teams: In a busy frontline work environment, it can be challenging to hear Walkie Talkie transmissions. To address this, we're launching live closed captions for any audible transmission in the Walkie Talkie app in Teams. This message applies to Teams Mobile (iOS, Android).

Microsoft Teams admin center: App centric management for app installation and changes to app setup policies MC795355 Published May 23, 2024

Coming soon for Microsoft Teams: App centric management for admin app installation introduces new admin settings to control who in the tenant has specific Teams apps preinstalled. Similar to app centric management for app availability, as communicated in MC688930 (Updated) Teams admin center: App centric management and changes to app permission policies (November 2023), admins will be able to install apps for users, groups, or everyone in the organization.

After rollout, app centric management will replace Installed apps in the Teams admin center and give admins the ability to install apps individually. The Installed apps in your app setup policies will be migrated to app centric management based on your current user and group assignments for each policy. The rest of your settings in app setup policies will remain unchanged and will continue to work based on app setup policies, including Pinned apps. After this rollout, you can install Teams apps for selected sets of users, groups, or all users in the organization, and Installed apps in app setup policies will no longer be available.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 394274.

App centric management will roll out in four General Availability phases.

Phase 1 | General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-July 2024 and expect to complete late August 2024. This phase applies to tenants who meet both conditions: 1) tenants with no Installed apps in the Global app setup policy and 2) tenants with no custom app setup policies created in the Teams admin center. After rollout, these tenants will have app centric management enabled for their app installs. Admins may see the Manage apps page in read-only mode for a short time.

Phase 2 | More details coming soon as a follow up MC post. This phase applies to tenants who meet both conditions: 1) tenants with apps added to Installed apps in the Global app setup policy and 2) tenants with no custom app setup policies created in the Teams admin center. This phase will migrate apps installed in the Global app setup policy to app centric management.

Phase 3 | More details coming soon as a follow up MC post. This phase applies to tenants with both the Global app setup policy and custom app setup policies. This phase will migrate apps installed for users and groups through Installed apps in app setup policies to app centric management.

Phase 4 | More details coming soon as a follow up MC post. This phase applies to all remaining tenants.

Microsoft Teams: New meeting option to control permissions for admitting participants from lobby MC795085 Published May 22, 2024

Microsoft Teams: Currently, the capability to admit attendees from lobby and the capability to present are combined into one meeting role: Presenter. This frequently results in situations where meeting participants, who are not in charge of meeting management, are able to admit people from the lobby to enter the meeting, and the meeting organizer has no way to control it.

With this feature update, we are addressing this gap by introducing a meeting option for meeting organizers to be in control of who can admit people from the lobby:

The new option Who can admit from lobby will have two choices:

1. Only the organizer and co-organizers can admit from the lobby: This is the more secure option to be used for meetings where only organizers and co-organizers should be able to admit participants from the lobby.

2. The organizer, co-organizers, and presenters can admit from the lobby (default option): This mimics the current system behavior that presenters also get the right to admit participants from the lobby.

Microsoft Teams: Explicit Consent policy for Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 MC794819 Published May 21, 2024

Microsoft Teams will now support an Explicit Consent policy for processing all types of user generated content, such as audio and video, as part of the Explicit Recording policy. When the Explicit Consent policy is applied, the Teams meeting window will request explicit consent from all participants to have Teams use their audio and video for transcription, recording, or Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365. Before a user gives consent, the user cannot unmute, turn on their camera, or share content. This is the same as the current experience in Explicit Recording consent, but the Explicit Recording policy will now support transcription and Copilot for Microsoft 365.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-June 2024 and expect to complete by late June 2024.

Keep your Microsoft Teams desktop client compliant by updating it MC794736 Published May 21, 2024

Since Microsoft Teams is governed by the Modern Lifecycle Policy, the Teams desktop client needs to be up to date. Users who are on old versions of classic Teams app will receive in-app notifications to encourage them to update to the latest version of Teams. This is to ensure that users have the latest capabilities, performance enhancements, security features, and service reliability.

This in-app notification will not apply to users on machine wide (non-persistent setup) Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) deployments. Admins will need to regularly update those users to remain supported on Teams.

Per MC298823 (November '21), a version that is too far out of date will become incompatible with the service until it’s updated. Also see MC783985 for Classic Teams Timelines regarding end of support and end of availability.

This will be enforced on June 19th, 2024.

Microsoft Teams: Ability to purchase third-party app subscriptions from Teams Admin Center and Teams app store MC794545 Published May 20, 2024

We will soon enable enhanced purchase experience in both the Teams Admin Center and the Teams app store. This improvement will empower administrators and end-users to seamlessly assess the plans offered by an app and secure third-party app subscriptions that optimally meet their needs. The aim of this overhauled experience is to simplify and expedite the subscription purchase journey, from choosing a plan to finalizing and reviewing the billing details.

Our goal in refreshing our purchase user experience with new designs and structures is to offer a more recognizable user interface. This will enable users to comfortably identify the most suitable plan for their needs without being inundated by choices and facilitate a smooth plan purchase.
