Classic Microsoft Teams: Uninstallation paused for Windows only MC806095 Published Jun 27, 2024

Out of caution, we have paused automatic uninstallation of classic Microsoft Teams due to a rare issue impacting the Teams Meeting Add-in in Microsoft Outlook application. This message applies to Teams for Windows only. We will update this message when we are ready to resume the uninstallation.

Microsoft Teams: New preapproval policies for RSC permissions MC805712 Published Jun 26, 2024

We are excited to announce public preview of preapproval policies for resource-specific consent (RSC) permissions. Preapproval policies for RSC permissions (enabled by PowerShell cmdlets) give admins the ability to allow users to grant consent to data through RSC without having to allow all RSC enabled applications in their organization. This feature will allow admins to create policies to allow users to consent to RSC permissions on an app-by-app basis.

Targeted Release: We began rolling out June 24, 2024, and expect to complete by late June 2024.

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD): We will begin rolling out mid-September 2024 and expect to complete by late September 2024.

Microsoft Teams: Extended directory retires starting July 22, 2024 MC805189 Published Jun 25, 2024

We will be retiring the Extended directory preview-only feature for Connected Chat in Microsoft Teams starting July 22, 2024, and ending July 31, 2024. Instead, we recommend admins use Teams connect chat supported by external access, where we will continue to invest our development resources. You can access the External access features in Teams admin center > Users > External access.

The Extended directory feature, which was released to public preview customers in February 2024, is being deprecated due to low feature usage and customer demand. As a result, we will gradually phase out the feature by disabling it in all interfaces. The retiring feature was accessed with the Manage external user profiles button.

This change will happen automatically by the specified date. No admin action is required. Conversations (chat) that were established with an Extended directory contact will continue to work if external access policies are enabled.

Microsoft Teams: Message result suggestions when typing to search MC805211 Published Jun 25, 2024

In Microsoft Teams, you will now see message result suggestions when formulating a query. You can also narrow down search results to "messages" to help you quickly find the Teams message content that is most relevant for you.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 398955

Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out early July 2024 and expect to complete by mid-July 2024.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-July 2024 and expect to complete by late July 2024.

The new Microsoft Teams on the web Progressive Web App (PWA) is available now on Windows and macOS MC805205 Published Jun 25, 2024

The new Microsoft Teams on the web Progressive Web App (PWA) is now available on Windows and macOS for Microsoft Edge and Chrome browsers. This brings Windows and macOS into parity with our existing PWA experience on new Teams on the web for Linux.

The Teams PWA provides the same features as Microsoft Teams on the web, with the addition of these specific web app features: pin to taskbar, pin to Start, create desktop shortcut, and auto-start on device login.

Available now.

Microsoft Teams: Tenant Federation setting to control external access with trial-only tenants MC805200 Published Jun 25, 2024

Coming soon to Microsoft Teams: We are introducing a new admin control to enable you to block external access (federation) with Teams trial-only tenants. Some malicious actors have used free Teams trials to launch phishing or abuse attacks against Teams users. With this setting you can add another layer of protection for users against some of these attacks.

By default, this new setting will block external access with trial-only tenants 30 days after the rollout is complete and will require explicit action from you if you wish to continue to federate with trial tenants.

General Availability (Worldwide): Available now.

Blocking external access with trial-only tenants based on this setting will occur on July 29, 2024. If you take no action, the default value (Blocked) will be applied.

Microsoft Teams Phone: Improved license handling (GCC) MC805197 Published Jun 25, 2024

We are making it easier to migrate between phone number types by updating Microsoft Teams Phone license handling. With the new changes, Direct Routing and Operator Connect Numbers will no longer be unassigned when a Calling Plan license is added to a user. The user can also get any type of numbers (Direct Routing, Operator Connect, Microsoft Calling Plan) if the required license is present on the user account.

For Teams PowerShell

General Availability (Worldwide and GCC): We will begin rolling out late July 2024 and expect to complete by late July 2024.

For Teams admin center

General Availability (Worldwide and GCC): We will begin rolling out late July 2024 and expect to complete by early August 2024.

Note: Users with EDU licenses assigned will not receive this change.

Coming soon: Microsoft Teams will automatically detect and hide inactive channels you have not interacted with recently. You can review the list of channels and unhide some or all of them. You can opt out of automatic hiding from Teams Settings or initiate the hiding process on demand. This message applies to Microsoft Teams for Desktop, web, and Mac.

Teams Rooms on Android and Teams Phones impacted by retirement of legacy notifications infrastructure: UPGRADE REQUIRED! MC804766 Published Jun 24, 2024

MC798318 Reminder | Microsoft Teams Mobile: Support is retiring for legacy services infrastructure for chat messaging (June 2024) also impacts Teams Devices including Teams Rooms (Android) and Teams Phone devices, because these devices use the same chat notification service infrastructure as Teams Android mobile clients.

To avoid disruption, these updates must be completed before July 31, 2024

  • An update to Teams rooms application version 1449/1.0.96.2024020802 or greater is required for Teams Rooms on Android devices.
  • An update to Teams phone application version 1449/1.0.94.2024011003 or greater is required for Teams Phone devices.

Microsoft Teams devices are governed by the Modern Lifecycle Policy and require users to stay on the most up-to-date version of the Teams Rooms application. Automatic updates ensure that users have the latest capabilities, performance and security enhancements, and service reliability. Learn more about the Modern Lifecycle Policy under the Servicing agreement for Microsoft Teams.

On July 31, 2024, Microsoft will stop supporting the legacy services infrastructure for chat messaging, which impacts Teams Rooms on Android devices on earlier app version than 1449/1.0.96.2024020802 and Teams Phone devices on earlier app version than 1449/1.0.94.2024011003.
