Planned maintenance for all certified and supported Teams Android Devices to Company Portal version MC898390 Published Sep 26, 2024

If your organization does not use Teams Android Devices you can safely disregard this message.

Planned Maintenance: Automatic updates for all certified and supported Teams Android Devices to Company Portal version 5.0.6152.0.

Upcoming Microsoft Infrastructure changes will impact Teams Android Devices running older and out of support firmware and applications. Teams Android Devices (Teams Rooms on Android, Teams Phone, Teams Display, and Teams Panel devices) running Company Portal applications older than 5.0.6061.0 may sign out or be unstable starting July 1, 2025. We recommend ensuring your devices are on 5.0.6152.0 as soon as possible as that is the latest supported version to ensure stability.

Please review your existing Teams Android devices and ensure they are on the latest supported and available firmware and application versions. In Teams Admin Center > Teams Devices you can export your current device inventory using the Excel icon for each device type, this export includes a column for Company Portal version. If you find devices not on 5.0.6152.0, please update your Teams Android devices to the latest available firmware in Teams Admin Center, you can review manual and automatic update options as explained in this link.

Since this Company Portal update is critical to ensure your devices stability, Microsoft will begin accelerated automatic firmware and company portal app only updates to ensure latest release for devices not currently running the latest release.

These auto-updates will start rolling out mid-October 2024 and will continue until late December 2024.

Stay current with your OS to keep your Microsoft Teams desktop client supported MC898394 Published Sep 26, 2024

Microsoft Teams is governed by the Modern Lifecycle Policy, the Teams desktop client needs to be under a supported OS version. This is to ensure that users have the latest updates, capabilities, performance enhancements, security features, and service compatibility.

On new Teams, users on OS versions that are not supported will receive in-app notifications to encourage them to update their device to a supported OS version. A version that is too far out of date will become incompatible with the service and the Desktop client will be blocked until the OS is updated.

Windows OSes support dates and lifecycle policy are documented in Product and Service lifecycle page. For example, OSes such as Windows LTSC and OSes under Long Term Serving Channel (LTSC), are not supported as they follow the Fixed lifecycle policy.

MacOS typically receives support for three years following its release, with the end of support coinciding with the launch of the third subsequent major macOS version. For example, once macOS 15 is released, macOS 12 will no longer be supported.

This will be shown on the new Teams client starting on October 15th, 2024. Note, users on Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) deployments are currently excluded.

We are excited to announce two new features in the Teams Store that will help users discover and adopt apps in Microsoft Teams. These enhancements are designed to streamline how users find and engage with apps in Teams. This message applies to Teams on the web and Teams for Windows and Mac desktops.

Microsoft Teams: UDP Signaling Ports configuration change MC898392 Published Sep 26, 2024

Coming soon: To enhance the efficiency of Microsoft Teams, we will implement a significant update to the UDP signaling ports used for Calling and Meetings.

Before this rollout, Teams uses UDP Source Ports 49152-65535 for Calling and Meetings signaling API Calls. This includes functionality such as mute/unmute, hold, adding participants, and reactions.

After this rollout, Teams will transition UDP signaling from source ports 49152-65535 to 50070-50089, maintaining the destination UDP port 3478. This change aims to reduce the number of ports used and enable you to apply Quality of Service (QoS) DSCP markers to this traffic.

When this will happen: General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early October 2024 and expect to complete by early October 2024.

Updated September 20, 2024: We have updated the content below for clarity. Thank you for your feedback.

We're introducing a new policy that gives IT admins enhanced flexibility with distinct settings for voice and face enrollment. This adjustment provides greater control over managing these features, allowing organizations to tailor to their needs. Microsoft Teams: Auto-detect and pre-select room audio in BYOD meeting rooms MC892647 Published Sep 19, 2024

Coming soon to Microsoft Teams: When users connect their laptop to a room's shared peripheral through USB, Teams will automatically detect the room's audio and recommend the room audio option on the pre-join screen to help streamline a user's entry into a bring your own device (BYOD) meeting room. If a room's audio peripherals are recognized as shared or they are on Microsoft's known BYOD peripherals list, the room audio option will be suggested to users. After users connect the peripheral to their laptop and join a meeting, users will automatically transition to the room's audio if a room's audio peripherals are recognized as shared and are on Microsoft's known BYOD peripherals list* or if the room's audio peripheral is associated** to a room via the Microsoft Teams Pro management portal. A shared peripheral is one that is being used by multiple users, which distinguishes it from a personal peripheral. This message applies to Teams on Windows desktops and Mac desktops.

*Use shared display mode in meeting rooms - Microsoft Support (will be updated with a list of known BYOD peripherals before rollout)

**Bring Your Own Device Rooms in Teams Pro Management portal (will be updated before rollout)

Microsoft Teams: FAQs about town halls and Teams Live Events MC892643 Published Sep 18, 2024

This informational message addresses several frequently asked questions regarding Microsoft Teams town halls and Teams Live Events (TLE).

First, as a reminder, TLE will not be retiring this calendar year, as announced in Updates for Town Hall in Microsoft Teams and Teams Live Events - Microsoft Community Hub and communicated in MC678003 (Updated) Microsoft Teams Live Event Retirement (updated May 2024).

We have not set a new retirement date for TLE, which we will continue to maintain while we work on closing the remaining major feature gaps between TLE and Teams town hall. Also, the full retirement of classic Teams as described in End of availability for classic Teams client - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn will not affect TLE scheduling, even though TLE scheduling currently uses classic Teams. We will move TLE scheduling from classic Teams on the web and rebuild it natively in Teams 2.1. We expect to complete this work by early December 2024. As a reminder, even with the extended life of TLE, all major feature updates will be reserved for Teams town hall. We still encourage customers to move to town hall as soon are you are unblocked in terms of feature parity.

As the timelines for the features become clear, we will also update the Microsoft 365 Roadmap with timelines for each gap-closing feature we plan to release. Please keep an eye on the roadmap for updates on these features.

Microsoft Teams: Participant roster grouping in Teams BYOD meeting rooms MC892055 Published Sep 17, 2024

Coming soon for Microsoft Teams: When users join a Teams meeting with their laptop in bring your own device (BYOD) meeting rooms, they will appear in the In-room participant section of the roster, which enables individual identification and meeting intelligence capabilities. As communicated in MC814577 (Updated) Microsoft Teams: Roster grouping for in-room participants through Proximity Join for Teams Rooms on Windows (July 2024), we will launch this same experience in September 2024 for joining a nearby meeting with a Microsoft Teams Room and a companion device.

Unique to BYOD meeting rooms, the roster group will be displayed as Meeting space if the connected device is NOT identified in the Teams Pro Management Portal (PMP). If the device is identified in the PMP, the roster group will display the configured meeting room name.

Microsoft Teams: Users will exclusively control their voice and face data exports MC892049 Published Sep 17, 2024

We are excited to announce an important update designed to enhance the privacy and security of your organization. Before this rollout, admins had the capability to download voice and face data for their users who have opted in to enroll their voice and/or face on the Recognition tab in Microsoft Teams. With this rollout, to better protect user data, we are shifting this capability to users. This change will ensure that users have more control over their own voice and face data, aligning with our commitment to privacy and security. This change reduces the risk of unauthorized access or sharing, as users will handle their own data export requests and admins will not have access to this data. This message applies to Teams for Windows desktop and Teams for Mac desktop.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 413709.

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We will begin rolling out mid-October 2024 and expect to complete by late October 2024.

Microsoft Teams: Voice isolation will be available for macOS desktops MC891240 Published Sep 16, 2024

With voice isolation in Microsoft Teams, you can enjoy clear and uninterrupted calls or meetings, no matter where you are. Voice isolation is an AI-based advanced noise suppression feature that eliminates unwanted background noise, including other human voices. The technology recognizes your voice profile and ensures only your voice is transmitted. Voice isolation can be enabled for calls and meetings. With this rollout, voice isolation will be available on Teams for macOS desktops.
