(Updated) New Lobby Policy for Webinar MC550804 · Published May 5, 2023 · Last updated Aug 2, 2023

Updated August 2, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Currently in Public webinars, you are unable to distinguish registered users in the lobby. This means that you cannot allow registered users to directly bypass your lobby and enter your webinar. With this new change, we will be offering two new lobby options that will allow you to better control security in your webinar. These new lobby options are:

A new 'Allow registered users to bypass' lobby policy that allows registered users to bypass the lobby in your webinar.

A new 'Reject users who cannot bypass the lobby' that rejects users who cannot bypass the lobby.

Both options are only available for Webinars.

(Updated) New Graph APIs for accessing Teams Meeting Recording MC600733 · Published Jun 21, 2023 · Last updated Aug 2, 2023

Updated August 2, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

New org-wide application permissions and RSC application permissions have been introduced to allow apps to access meeting recordings for a specific meeting. Resource specific consent (RSC) permissions, specifically enables admins to authorize users to provide consent to apps, so they get specific access to a Teams meeting’s recordings to which it is installed to, rather than providing them access across the entire tenant.

(Updated) Microsoft Teams: App Suggestions by Task in In-Context Stores MC561700 · Published May 26, 2023 · Last updated Aug 2, 2023

Updated August 2, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Users think about which tasks they need to complete, such as creating a survey, inside Microsoft Teams. Soon, app suggestions will be organized by tasks that the apps support as opposed to conventional categories (productivity, project management). As a result, the new categorization will reduce the amount of time users need to spend learning about these apps – helping them to work more effectively.

(Updated) Changes in Normalization MC536885 · Published Apr 4, 2023 · Last updated Aug 2, 2023

Updated August 2, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Stopping normalization on number that starts with plus sign (+)

Normalization in Microsoft Teams was not designed to do normalization when the phone number starts with plus sign (+) as documented, but we've never enforced this in the Teams desktop or Web client. We are planning to enforce this in the future but for now we recommend avoiding this pattern.

We are making this change to align with our Calling Service, other Teams services, Azure Communication Services SDKs, and other Microsoft services. Numbers that start with a plus sign (+) will not pass through any normalization rules.

Translated numbers that do not start with a plus sign (+), will pass through normalization rules more than once. Please see Create and manage dial plans for more information.

Standard Release: We will begin rolling out mid-October 2023 (previously mid-July) and expect to complete by late October 2023 (previously late August).

(Updated) Viva Topics app in Teams MC546937 · Published Apr 26, 2023 · Last updated Aug 2, 2023

Updated August 2, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

The official Viva Topics app in Teams is rolling out to external customers.

Previously, we had built a Topics app for Teams as a script that Teams admins could upload. Now, the Topics app is available as a first party "Microsoft-built" app. This means the app is available in the app store for your tenant already, no upload or script-downloading required. Users in your tenant can either easily 'add' the app, like other Microsoft-built or Viva apps, or the Teams admins can select to have the Topics app pre-installed for users.
