Web links from Microsoft Teams chats to open in Microsoft Edge; Teams chat will open side-by-side with link MC669480 · Published Aug 21, 2023

The Microsoft Teams desktop app for Windows will open web links from Teams chats in Microsoft Edge to enable a new web and chat side-by-side experience.

By opening web links in Edge, users will be able to see those links side-by-side with their Teams chats—web links will open as new browser tabs and the Teams chats will open next to them in the Edge sidebar. This new, single-view Teams experience in Edge is designed to minimize switching between windows and to help users stay in the flow of work while referencing web links.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 126334.

This change to use Edge to open web links from Teams chats follows a similar, previously announced change in the Outlook for Windows app. Customers impacted by this change in Outlook were notified via MC541626, MC545904, or MC548092.

Admin controls are available as detailed below.

Read more about how we’re optimizing the experience between Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Edge:

Notes:

  • This change does not affect a device’s default browser setting in Windows.
  • This only affects commercial users signed into Teams with Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) accounts.
  • The policy described in the following section configures which browser is used to open web links for both Teams (chat) and the Outlook for Windows app (email), or, if you did not receive an Outlook for Windows app Message center notification, this policy will only apply to Teams (chat).

When will this affect your organization:

Timing:

  • Microsoft Teams desktop app for Windows: This change will start rolling out late September.
    • Outlook for Windows: Roll out in progress. If this change affects your users, you will have received either MC541626, MC545904, or MC548092, and can refer to them for specific timing.
      • Note: Depending on your Outlook for Windows update channel, you may experience the change in Teams first.

Microsoft Teams: Proactive Monitoring of Meeting Quality Using Real-time Telemetry (Premium) MC669479 · Published Aug 21, 2023

The Real-Time Analytics feature in the Teams admin center allows admins to view their users' meetings and identify issues related to audio, video, content sharing, and network connectivity. As an admin, you can use this information to investigate and address any problems with the meeting experience while the meeting is ongoing. Currently, the troubleshooting process for admins is manual and requires continuous admin involvement. The admin or engineer must search for a user, access their call history, identify ongoing meetings or live events they are participating in, and then search for the specific information needed to troubleshoot issues. However, with the introduction of Proactive Monitoring Notifications for In-Progress meetings, admins can efficiently monitor multiple meetings simultaneously for important users in their organization. This functionality enables admins to monitor audio, video, and app-sharing experiences based on various parameters and receive alerts if there are any issues with a user's meeting experience.

This feature is part of the Teams premium add-on SKU. All admins will see the feature within the Teams admin center, but for users to be configured and enabled for monitoring notifications they are required to have a Teams Premium license assigned for this feature to work.

This message is associated with Microsoft Roadmap ID 135667

Rollout will begin in late August 2023 and is expected to be complete by early September 2023.

Avatars: Hardware Requirements and Service Plan Update MC669477 · Published Aug 21, 2023

Users will not be able to utilize this feature if it does not meet the minimum hardware spec. This change is due to be able to provide users with a better Avatars for Teams experience.

Rollout for the service plan will begin in late August and is expected to be complete by September. Rollout for the hardware requirements is expected to be complete by end of September.

Viva Goals: Roll-Up Expected Progress From Child Key Results to Parent MC669742 · Published Aug 22, 2023

Currently in Viva Goals, while you can set up phased targets (ability to shape the expected progress curve) at the level of the child key result, the targets do not roll up to the parent key result or objective. This has caused confusion to both the child and the parent objective owners resulting in incorrect progress and status calculations and incorrect depictions of the expected progress values in the progress graphs.

With this release, if the child key result has phased targets, then the targets are rolled up from the children to the parent. If there is more than one key result, then the expected progress is rolled up based on the contribution of the key result to the parent.

If in case, the parent objective owner decides to set up targets at the level of the parent, then those targets override the rolled-up targets.

Rollout will begin in late August 2023 and is expected to be complete by early September 2023.

(Updated) Microsoft Viva: Use of Viva Topics in Viva Engage Grants Visibility of Topic Names MC661222 · Published Jul 26, 2023 · Last updated Aug 22, 2023

Updated August 22, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank  you for your patience.

In January, we announced the General Availability of Viva Topics in Viva Engage (Yammer) to customers. As part of the Viva Engage topics transition to Viva Topics, posts in Viva Engage (conversations, questions, polls, announcements, storyline posts) will be considered as Viva Topic resources. As a result, all users with access to posts in Viva Engage will be able to see the topic names applied to those posts in Engage as well as in other Viva Topics experiences in Microsoft 365 (e.g., Topic cards and pages).

Migrating Viva Engage to use Viva Topics supports a consistent topics experience in Microsoft 365 and allows for community-sourced knowledge to be accessible across an organization. For organizations not using premium Viva Topics experiences, the use of topics in Viva Engage will appear the same before and after topic migration. For organizations using Viva Topics, you will gain the premium benefits, such as topic cards in Yammer (Viva Engage), Viva topic pages, and centralized topic management.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 148465

Rollout will begin in mid-September 2023 (previously late August) and will continue to roll out to all Viva Engage networks by late September 2023.

The ‘New questions’ control allows employees to create and edit their own questions. We will soon be merging the two controls into one customization control. This one control, when turned ON, will allow employees to edit stock questions and add their own questions in the Pulse survey. All customization capabilities will be turned on when this control is ON, and all customization capabilities will be turned off when this control is OFF.

Rollout will begin in early September 2023 and is expected to be complete by late September 2023.
