(Updated) Microsoft Teams user request configuration to external systems (URL redirect) MC411463 · Published Aug 9, 2022 · Last updated Jan 7, 2023

Updated January 6, 2023: We are pleased to announce that the phased release of the PowerShell script to deactivate the ability for users to see and request blocked apps will begin in early February, with full general availability in March. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay and appreciate your patience as we work to improve this feature.

Microsoft Teams apps help facilitate collaboration and enhance team productivity. Some organizations choose to control which apps their users can use, blocking apps from use until IT has reviewed and approved them. For these organizations, the recent app discovery update (MC350372) enables users to indicate which blocked apps they want to use, allowing IT to focus their attention on the apps their users want. As always, IT retains control over which apps their users can use.

We heard from some IT organizations that they have existing processes to manage how users should request access to apps, and they want to use these same processes for approving Teams apps as well. In response, we are adding optional organizational settings to enable Teams admins to customize the experience for their users to request access to apps that are blocked from use. These settings include:

A customizable instructional message shown to users when they find an app that’s blocked from use. The default message is “This app requires approval from your IT admin to make it available for you to add.”

An IT provided URL that will open in a browser when users click the “Request approval” button to request access to an app (e.g., IT support ticketing systems, user education pages, or corporate policy pages).

In the Teams app store, users who discover apps that are blocked from use will see the customized instructional message (if provided) on the app details page and be redirected to the URL (if provided) when the “Request approval” button is clicked.

Example scenario: Contoso’s IT department has configured Teams to block all third-party apps by default. They have enabled access only to specific third-party apps that they have evaluated and determined to be acceptable. For the user request feature, the Teams admin for Contoso configures the instructional message to say "This app is not allowed by Contoso IT. If you have a business need for this app, please submit your request in the Contoso helpdesk portal." This makes clear (i) that the app cannot be used, and (ii) instructions to submit a request. They then configure the "Request approval" button to point to their internal portal where users can submit IT helpdesk requests: https://intranet.contoso.com/helpdesk. This experience drives awareness of corporate policy and the existing Contoso request process.

Note: As an administrator, if you prefer to deactivate the ability for users to see and request apps that are blocked from use, you will be able to do so via PowerShell that is expected to be delivered in January 2023. We will update this message once the PowerShell script is available.

 

Microsoft Teams: Video Filters in Teams Meetings MC495330 · Published Jan 7, 2023

Video Filters are a new feature in Microsoft Teams meetings that will allow participants to augment their video stream with visual effects, such as frames and styles. These filters are built on the Teams Platform infrastructure and provided by Microsoft first- and third-party partners as apps and displayed as a collection of filters.

Public Preview: We will complete rollout in late January 2023.

Known Issue: Admins may not be able to update certain Teams devices to the latest available firmware MC495325 · Published Jan 6, 2023

We are temporarily pausing updates (previously announced via Message center) to the latest available firmware for Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android devices, Phones, Displays, and Panels from Teams admin center.

 

(Updated) General availability - Receive all chats messages in all scopes MC485096 · Published Dec 14, 2022 · Last updated Jan 6, 2023

Updated January 6, 2023: We have updated the timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

The resource-specific consent (RSC) permissions model for receiving all message, originally developed for Microsoft Teams Graph APIs, is being extended to bot scenarios. This feature was available for the channel scope and now is being extended to chat scope.  With RSC, conversation owners can consent for a bot to receive all user messages in standard channels and chats without being @mentioned.

This change is related to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 100883

Will begin rolling out early January and expect to complete by late January.

 

Retiring Teams Mobile Support for Devices Running on iOS 14 MC495051 · Published Jan 6, 2023

We will be retiring the Teams mobile support on iOS version 14. We recommend that users upgrade to newer iOS builds i.e., iOS 15 and above, which is where we will continue to invest our development resources. We will also begin encouraging users to update to the newest version of Teams if they're running builds that are older than one year.

The deprecation of iOS 14 will start on March 1, 2023, and complete by March 7, 2023.

We will also prompt users to move to supported OS versions before the retirement.

 

Admins will be unable to add new or edit existing reports in Call Quality Dashboard (CQD) during scheduled maintenance MC494379 · Published Jan 4, 2023

Planned Maintenance: Microsoft Call Quality Dashboard

We have maintenance planned for Microsoft Call Quality Dashboard:

  • Starting 01/07/2023 19:00 UTC.
  • Ending 01/08/2023 06:00 UTC.

How this will affect you organization:

As part of this planned maintenance, the following feature areas may be affected: Admins will be unable to add new or edit existing reports from CQD. Affected admins will be able to access and read current data from CQD. Any new admins will be unable to access CQD if doing so for the first time.

This maintenance is planned outside of normal business hours, to help minimize any impact to your organization.

For organizations with users around the globe, we recognize that "outside of normal business hours" might affect you differently. We apologize for the impact this may have on your users. We are working hard to improve Microsoft Call Quality Dashboard, to minimize these maintenance windows.

 

(Updated) Graph API for Teams Meetings Transcripts MC400569 · Published Jul 14, 2022 · Last updated Jan 5, 2023

Updated January 5, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

New org-wide application permissions and RSC application permissions have been introduced to make sure that apps can access meeting transcripts for a specific meeting. Resource specific consent (RSC) permissions, specifically enables admins to authorize users to provide consent to apps, so they get specific access to a Teams meeting’s transcripts to which it is installed to, rather than providing them access across the entire tenant.

This message is specifically associated with post-meeting transcripts access for apps - Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 95788 that allows authorized apps to access Teams Meetings transcripts once the meeting is over.

This API will be published to beta in end of July 2022 and to GA in early April (previously late February)

 

Microsoft Teams Flyout Enhancements MC494736 · Published Jan 5, 2023

App flyouts are contextual menus found throughout the Microsoft Teams experience that enable users to launch installed apps and to discover and install new apps within the specific context the user is in. For example, when a user opens the Message Extension (ME) app flyout from a group chat, they are shown all of their ME-enabled installed apps which can be used within that group chat. Engaging with apps via the flyout allows users to remain in their flow of work and reduces confusion regarding the app capabilities within that context.

The enhanced flyouts will begin rollout in mid-February 2023 and is expected to be complete by late February 2023.

 

Teams update: Expanded view of the profile card in Teams MC494734 · Published Jan 5, 2023

We’re adding a new feature to Teams 

Beginning in February, users in your organization will be able to use expanded views of the profile card in Teams. The expanded view is already available in Outlook and includes more information, like an overview of the profile, contact information, organizational chart, and LinkedIn tab.

(Updated) Microsoft Teams: Teams Calendar Now Includes Scheduling Form Pop-Outs MC440117 · Published Sep 28, 2022 · Last updated Jan 3, 2023

Updated January 3, 2023: We have observed that Teams’ calendar is not auto refreshing for some of our users.

Work around:

Users will get the most updated view of their calendar by

  1. Going to a different app and coming back
  2. clicking on today/ next or previous week and coming back
  3. Refreshing the page if they’re on web browser.

We expect this issue to be fixed for all our users by the 1st week of February. Thanks for your patience.

We will be releasing a new feature in Microsoft Teams that will now enable users to pop out the scheduling form as a separate window.

New Viva Engage Admin experiences releasing next month MC495323 · Published Jan 6, 2023

Next month, new admin experiences will be available within the Viva Engage Teams app for Microsoft Viva customers.

Get ready for Answers in Microsoft Viva MC495322 · Published Jan 6, 2023

Answers is a conversational experience for asking questions and connecting people to answers, and appears as a tab in Viva Engage. Learn more in the announcement blog (Announcing Answers in Microsoft Viva), or view the Microsoft Mechanics segment (YouTube).

Note: Customer tenants will need to be in Native Mode (Yammer Native Mode: step-by-step guide) and require Yammer topics being migrated to Viva Topics (Viva Topics experience in Yammer).

Introducing New Views in Viva Goals MC494733 · Published Jan 5, 2023

Viva Goals is now rolling out new simplified list and detail views to customer tenants. This rollout will complete in late January 2023.

The new view offers a refreshed information hierarchy with a flexible spreadsheet-like interface. It will allow you to resize column as well as access key information like status, progress, commentary, check-in history, alignment, and other OKR details by clicking on the cell. The user will have greater control over visualizing OKRs with multiple options for grouping, expanding, showing and hiding panels within the view. In the first half of 2023, we will be introducing additional customization and filtering options for data columns.

The new simplified views will be enabled for all users in your Viva Goals tenant. The users will have the option to switch back to legacy view until Jan 31, 2023, after which the new simplified views will be made the default view for all users. Learn more about views in Viva Goals here.

In preparation for the new RTMP-In Support for Microsoft Teams Live Events, the Teams Live Event Attendee Experience will soon be updated to better support this scenario. This will include increased reliability for the attendee experience and include the ability for attendees to watch the Teams Live Events in a separate window, which users can do on the Web today.

(Updated) New home experience for Viva Connections desktop MC447338 · Published Oct 17, 2022 · Last updated Dec 27, 2022

Updated December 27, 2022: The New home experiences for Viva Connections desktop will start rolling out to production tenants through Q1 of next calendar year.

Customers with existing home sites can choose to keep their existing desktop experience using our new PowerShell command that is already available to all customers since mid-November. More information about the PowerShell command is captured in this doc: Customize and edit the Viva Connections home experience.

A new desktop experience is being released for Viva Connections that’s easier and faster to set up and optimizes content to deliver a modern employee experience. The new Viva Connections desktop design serves as a new home experience option that centers essential job tasks, personalized content, easy access to other Viva experiences, and better aligns with the mobile experience.

It uses existing assets from your organization’s home site and Viva Connection’s Dashboard, Feed, and Resources. If your organization already has Viva Connections set up, you’ll have the option to choose to keep the existing desktop experiences that features the home site or to use the new home experience. Learn more about the new Viva Connections home experience.

Key points:

  • If you’ve already set up Viva Connections, existing content will pre-populate the new home experience.
  • If you haven’t set up Viva Connections yet, the default experience includes starter cards on the Dashboard but otherwise doesn’t impact the current mobile experience.
  • There will be an option to select the default landing experience if your organization already has a home site. This option will become available to all customer by mid-November in the form of a PowerShell command. More information about the PowerShell command will be in the customization guidance.

The Microsoft Teams Meeting LTI app has now enabled users the access to meeting video recordings and attendance reports directly inside their LMS. The feature will be available to use in all of the LMS' that are incorporating the Teams Meeting LTI app.

Virtual Appointment as a new Teams Meeting Template MC488588 · Published Dec 20, 2022

A new Teams Meeting Template, Virtual Appointment, will be added as a new template type accessible from the 'New meeting' dropdown menu in the Teams Calendar. This is a free experience that brings enhanced business-to-consumer meeting features into the lightweight and familiar Teams scheduling experience. When meeting with someone from outside of your organization, the Virtual Appointment meeting can be used to ensure the person you are meeting with has a seamless experience with the meeting from start to finish - all without having to learn new tools or leave the standard scheduling flow.

Users can use the Virtual Appointment template instead of a standard Teams meeting for meetings with external users. They can select the meeting type, fill out the tailored scheduling form, including external guests and meeting details, and then send the meeting. The external guests invited will receive a customized meeting invitation that includes key appointment details and a quick-join button, which allows users to join the meeting from anywhere - without downloading Teams - and enter a pre-appointment waiting room before the meeting begins. This provides a familiar experience to internal users and makes external user join a seamless experience.

Microsoft Viva: Meeting Prep Inline Suggestions Coming to Outlook with Viva Insights MC489163 · Published Dec 20, 2022

A new inline suggestion in Outlook is being released with Microsoft Viva Insights to support booking meeting preparation time. The book prep time suggestion will enable Viva Insights users to set time aside to review related documents, complete tasks or take on any other preparation steps before the meeting.

Sharing a copy of praise in Viva Insights app in Teams and Teams Messaging Extension MC489162 · Published Dec 20, 2022

Praise in Microsoft Teams is designed to appreciate the effort that goes into the wide-ranging, collaborative work that Teams users do. Users can send praise to their colleagues through the messaging extension pinned to the Teams messaging bar or through the Microsoft Viva Insights app in Teams. For both, admins can use the Microsoft Teams admin center to enable/disable Praise.

With the upcoming updates, users with Viva Insights subscriptions will have the ability to share a copy of praise they send. Shared recipients will be notified via Teams and can see praise details in the Microsoft Viva Insights app in Teams.
