IT Admin Policy Change for the New Webinars experience on Teams MC535700 · Published 1 Apr 2023

With the launch of the new webinar experience, we introduced a new events policy.

In order to ensure smooth transition to the new webinar experience, we temporarily continued the old webinar policy setting of AllowMeetingRegistration in controlling the availability of the new webinar. Now with successful introduction of the new webinar, we will be decoupling the settings that control the availability of the old (via AllowMeetingRegistration in meeting policy) and the new (via AllowWebinar in events policy) webinar.

This change will take effect on May 3, 2023.

Teams Video Clip was released last November, we are updating the feature with auto-generated captions support.

Standard Release: We will begin rolling out mid-April (previously early April) and expect to complete by late April (previously mid-April).

(Updated) Microsoft Teams user request configuration to external systems (URL redirect) MC411463 · Published 9 Aug 2022 · Last updated 31 Mar 2023

Updated March 31, 2023: The general availability of PowerShell script to deactivate user request in the tenant is now April 2023. We apologize for inconveniences caused by the delay.

Microsoft Teams apps help facilitate collaboration and enhance team productivity. Some organizations choose to control which apps their users can use, blocking apps from use until IT has reviewed and approved them. For these organizations, the recent app discovery update (MC350372) enables users to indicate which blocked apps they want to use, allowing IT to focus their attention on the apps their users want. As always, IT retains control over which apps their users can use.

We heard from some IT organizations that they have existing processes to manage how users should request access to apps, and they want to use these same processes for approving Teams apps as well. In response, we are adding optional organizational settings to enable Teams admins to customize the experience for their users to request access to apps that are blocked from use. These settings include:

A customizable instructional message shown to users when they find an app that’s blocked from use. The default message is “This app requires approval from your IT admin to make it available for you to add.”

An IT provided URL that will open in a browser when users click the “Request approval” button to request access to an app (e.g., IT support ticketing systems, user education pages, or corporate policy pages).

In the Teams app store, users who discover apps that are blocked from use will see the customized instructional message (if provided) on the app details page and be redirected to the URL (if provided) when the “Request approval” button is clicked.

Example scenario: Contoso’s IT department has configured Teams to block all third-party apps by default. They have enabled access only to specific third-party apps that they have evaluated and determined to be acceptable. For the user request feature, the Teams admin for Contoso configures the instructional message to say "This app is not allowed by Contoso IT. If you have a business need for this app, please submit your request in the Contoso helpdesk portal." This makes clear (i) that the app cannot be used, and (ii) instructions to submit a request. They then configure the "Request approval" button to point to their internal portal where users can submit IT helpdesk requests: https://intranet.contoso.com/helpdesk. This experience drives awareness of corporate policy and the existing Contoso request process.

This feature is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 89288.

Note: As an administrator, if you prefer to deactivate the ability for users to see and request apps that are blocked from use, you will be able to do so via PowerShell that is expected to be delivered in January 2023. We will update this message once the PowerShell script is available.

This feature will be available in April 2023.

Speaker View is particularly effective in scenarios with a limited number of key speakers and a large audience, such as town halls, trainings, or lectures - especially from the student's perspective.

Task publishing: Teams activity feed items for all team members/owners when an urgent task is published to their team MC531216 · Published 21 Mar 2023 · Last updated 29 Mar 2023

Updated March 29, 2023: We are removing this message as it is a duplicate of MC531736. Thank you for your feedback.

What's changing: In response to numerous customer requests, we're improving visibility when an urgent task is published to a Microsoft team. After this feature is rolled out, when an organization uses the task publishing feature to publish a task with a priority set to Urgent, each member or owner of the team that receives this task will receive a Teams activity feed informing them that an urgent task was published to their team. This will ensure greater visibility for the time-sensitive urgent tasks, such as product recalls that need to be acted upon at multiple locations as soon as possible. This will not affect when a user creates an urgent task in the Tasks app for their own team. This change in notification activity is specific to the special task publishing functionality which must be enabled by an admin.

What is task publishing: The task publishing feature is designed for frontline organizations that need work to be completed across distinct locations (such as stores, clinics, factories, branches). Task publishing allows business leaders to centrally define a set of tasks to be completed and distribute a copy of those tasks to tens, hundreds, or thousands of teams across your organization. Frontline organizations can also monitor the status of the work during execution. Visit the task publishing documentation to see a video overview of the feature. You can also view the instructions to set up task publishing for more information.
