End-to-end encrypted Meetings - 200
participants (Premium) MC679525
· Published Oct 5, 2023
For meetings that require heightened
confidentiality, end-to-end encryption (E2EE) is an extra layer of security
that encrypts data at its origin and decrypts it at its destination. Only
audio, video, and video-based screen sharing is end-to-end encrypted. Apps,
avatars, reactions, chat, and Q&A are not end-to-end encrypted.
We had launched end-to-end encryption (E2EE)
for meetings with 50 participants in February 2023. We are increasing the
meeting size to 200 participants. We support:
- One can schedule an end-to-end encrypted meeting from desktop
(Windows and Mac) and mobile (iOS or Android).
- To join an end-to-end encrypted meeting
- One can join an end-to-end encrypted meeting from desktop (Windows
or Mac) or mobile (iOS or Android) or Teams Room Device (Windows or

- All other platforms are blocked from joining an end-to-end
encrypted meeting.

(Updated) Web links from Microsoft Teams
chats to open in Microsoft Edge; Teams chat will open side-by-side with link
MC669480
· Published Aug 21, 2023 · Last updated Oct 4, 2023
Update for October 4, 2023: This Microsoft
Teams change has started rolling out to Targeted Release. Standard commercial
rollout will start in early November 2023 (previously late September) and is
expected to be completed by late November.
The Microsoft Teams desktop app for Windows
will open web links from Teams chats in Microsoft Edge to enable a new web and
chat side-by-side experience.
By opening web links in Edge, users will be
able to see those links side-by-side with their Teams chats—web links will open
as new browser tabs and the Teams chats will open next to them in the Edge
sidebar. This new, single-view Teams experience in Edge is designed to minimize
switching between windows and to help users stay in the flow of work while
referencing web links.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365
Roadmap ID 126334.
This change to use Edge to open web links from
Teams chats follows a similar, previously announced change in the Outlook for
Windows app. Customers impacted by this change in Outlook were notified via
MC541626, MC545904, or MC548092.
Admin controls are available as detailed below.

New in Teams | Microsoft Inspire 2023
Notes:
- This change does not affect a device’s default browser setting in
Windows.
- This only affects commercial users signed into Teams with Azure
Active Directory (Azure AD) accounts.
- The policy described in the following section configures which
browser is used to open web links for both Teams (chat) and the Outlook for
Windows app (email), or, if you did not receive an Outlook for Windows app
Message center notification, this policy will only apply to Teams (chat).
When will this affect your organization:
Timing:
- Microsoft Teams desktop app for Windows: Rolling out now to
Targeted Release and will begin to rollout in early November and complete
in late November for Standard Release.
- Outlook for Windows: Roll out in progress. If this change affects
your users, you will have received either MC541626, MC545904, or MC548092,
and can refer to them for specific timing.
- Note: Depending on your Outlook for Windows update channel, you may
experience the change in Teams first.
Action:
- Use the "Choose which browser opens web links" policy to
configure which browser will be used to open web links and to set whether
users will be able to make changes to which browser opens web links in
both the Teams desktop app for Windows (chat) and the Outlook for Windows
app (email).
- If you did not receive a message center notification for the Outlook
for Windows app (email), then the setting only applies to Teams (chat).
- If you did receive a message center notification for the Outlook
for Windows app (email), then the setting applies to both Teams (chat) and
Outlook for Windows app (email). You will not be able to manage each app
individually using this policy. If you’ve previously configured this
policy for the Outlook for Windows app and wish to maintain that
configuration, no action is required.
Note: There are no Microsoft 365 subscription
restrictions in using this policy to configure which browser opens web links in
Teams.
- Use of the policy to manage the change in the Outlook for Windows
app depends on your Microsoft 365 subscription. If you received the
Outlook for Windows app Message center notification, please refer to
MC541626, MC545904, or MC548092 for details on whether configuring this
policy will apply.
- If you have not configured the policy, or wish to change it, find
the details below.

Service Plan Update MC672518
· Published Aug 31, 2023 · Last updated Oct 4, 2023
Updated October 4, 2023: IT admins have been
previously informed that there will be a new service plan in your Microsoft 365
or Office 365 licenses: MESH_AVATARS_FOR_TEAMS.
You may have also noticed that there is an
additional service plan MESH_AVATARS_ADDITIONAL_FOR_TEAMS that was published
alongside the MESH_AVATARS_FOR_TEAMS service plan.
Here are the intended uses of the two service
plans:
MESH_AVATARS_FOR_TEAMS – this service plan
enables or disables Mesh Avatars for Teams.
MESH_AVATARS_ADDITIONAL_FOR_TEAMS – this
service plan is intended to differentiate any features that may be released
separately between commercial and non-commercial customers due to different
legal requirements
Please be mindful that there are currently no
features in MESH_AVATARS_ADDITIONAL_FOR_TEAMS at this time so there are no
actions needed. We will let you know when any features are added to this
service plan.
----Original message below---
You will soon see a new service plan associated
with your Microsoft 365 or Office 365 license: Avatars for Teams
(MESH_AVATARS_FOR_TEAMS).
Avatars for Teams app is also updating the
minimum hardware requirements to access this feature. The new minimum specified
hardware requirement is a two core CPU with 6gb RAM. Users will not be able to
utilize this feature if it does not meet the minimum hardware spec. This change
is due to be able to provide users with a better Avatars for Teams experience.
Rollout for the service plan will begin in late
September and is expected to be complete by October. Rollout for the hardware
requirements is expected to be complete by end of September.

(Updated) Microsoft Teams: New Channels
Experience MC550081
· Published May 3, 2023 · Last updated Oct 2, 2023
Updated October 2, 2023: We have updated the
content below with additional information. Thank you for your patience.
A new channels experience in Microsoft Teams
has been built with an intuitive design that allows teams to focus and stay on
tasks, bring everyone up to speed, and actively engage in real-time. The
following features will be rolling out:
- The compose box and recent posts will appear at the bottom
(previously top) of the channel by default. Users can configure channels
to show new posts at the top via the more options ... menu the top of the
channel. It'll now be much easier to start a new post, keep up with the
latest conversations and participate - giving users the confidence that
they’ve not missed anything.
- Every post is now a true conversation that users can focus on.
Users can navigate to a conversation view that makes the discussion more
engaging and synchronous, just like a chat. Users can also pop out the
post, keep an eye on the discussion, while continuing to work on other
topics.
- A streamlined information pane will include all the important
contextual information like channel’s members and pinned posts so new team
members can quickly on-board and for all members to find the information
they need, right in the channel.
- Pin posts to make it easy for everyone to know what’s important in
the channel and quickly reference it.
- Simplified badging is making it easier for users to understand when
there are new unread activities in teams. In addition, the simplified
design helps users focus on the specific channels which requires the most
attention, like channels in which the user was @mentioned.
