(Preview) Monitoring Notifications for meeting quality using Real-time telemetry MC617083 · Published Jun 30, 2023

Real-Time telemetry available in Teams admin center lets IT admins look at their users’ meetings and see audio, video, content sharing, and network-related issues. As an admin, you can use this telemetry to investigate meeting experience quality issues while the meeting is in-progress. Today, the troubleshooting workflow available for admins is manual & require constant admin intervention (Communication admin/engineer must search a user, go to his call history, find out an in-progress meeting or live event he’s part of and then look for the desired information).

In most cases, admin expects to be proactively notified when participants are experiencing network quality issues during their in-progress meetings/events.

With Monitoring notifications for In-Progress meetings, admins can scale and monitor multiple meetings at same time for multiple users. With this functionality, admins can monitor audio, video and app-sharing related experiences based on multiple monitoring parameters and get informed if there’s an issue with the meeting experience of user.

Until now, these monitoring notifications were available to a limited set of organizations as part of a limited preview. We are expanding this limited preview to more organizations (including yours) to benefit from these monitoring capabilities.

Preview: We will begin rolling out in early July'23

Standard release: Tentatively by August’23

New Microsoft Teams rollout schedule, new controls, and direct deployment MC617066 · Published Jun 30, 2023

Since March 2023, we have continued to add features such as third-party, line-of-business (LOB) applications, breakout rooms, and new scenarios such as multi-tenant organization (MTO) to the new Teams experience. Read MC533687 for details for our March announcement. Check The new Microsoft Teams (Preview) for details on upcoming features and support for Government Clouds and platforms such as Mac, VDI, and Web.

This announcement includes three upcoming changes for rolling out the new Microsoft Teams app:

Note: We will continue to honor the admin setting for UseNewTeamsClient under Teams update policies, where admins have already deployed the policy. This is to ensure administrators are fully empowered to manage the rollout of new Teams in a manner that’s right for them.

  1. We will begin displaying Try the new Teams toggle within the classic Microsoft Teams client where the admin policy setting of UseNewTeamsClient is set to Microsoft default value (Microsoft controlled in the Teams Admin Center (TAC) or Microsoft choice in PowerShell) based on our schedule details below.
  2. Administrators will be able to directly deploy the new Teams client to PCs in their organization.
  3. We will begin making new Teams as the default app for classic Teams users where the admin policy is set to Microsoft default (Microsoft controlled in TAC or Microsoft choice in PowerShell) based on our schedule details below. Administrators will be able to manage setting new Teams as the default app for their users.

Starting mid-to late July 2023:

Microsoft will begin displaying the Try the new Teams toggle within the classic Microsoft Teams client starting in late July 2023. The planned rollout will be:

  • Business plans (for example, Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, and Teams Essentials (AAD), etc.): late July-early August 2023
  • Enterprise plans (for example, E3, E5, F3, etc.): The new Microsoft Teams desktop client
    • Note: Admins who have already deployed the policy to display the toggle or hide the toggle for their organizations will not see any change.
  • Administrators can deploy the new Teams client directly to PCs in their organization starting mid-July 2023.
  • Administrators can deploy a new setting value to make new Teams the default app for their users starting late July 2023

Starting September 2023:

Microsoft will start making the new Teams the default app starting in late September 2023. The planned rollout will be:

  • Business plans (for example, Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, and Teams Essentials (AAD), etc.): late September 2023
  • Enterprise plans (for example, E3, E5, F3, etc.): The new Microsoft Teams desktop client

(Updated) Teams Rooms: Windows 11 support for Teams Rooms on Windows devices MC537412 · Published Apr 5, 2023 · Last updated Jun 30, 2023

Updated June 30, 2023: We have updated the timing outlined below. Thank you for your patience.

While our rollout plans have not changed, based on feedback from customers who need some additional time to test Windows 11, we are offering a temporary hold on Windows 11 upgrade to customers until November 20, 2023. Customers who want to utilize this option MUST follow these instructions before mid-June 2023 (before 4.17 app update) to delay upgrade to Windows 11.

Instructions:

Set this registry key to put the Windows 11 upgrade on an MTR on hold.

Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PPI\SkypeSettings

Key: CBU11

Data: 1 (as a dword)

Delete the registry key to resume the upgrade.

Important: If you do not set this registry key prior to 4.17 app update (releasing in mid-June), eligible devices will automatically upgrade to Windows 11. Please also note that this only applies to existing in market/ in channel devices not on application version 4.17, and that OEMs have already moved to Windows 11 based images (due to end of sales for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise in Oct 2023, and lead time needed for OEMs to create media).

Teams Rooms on Windows devices that are eligible for Windows 11 upgrade will receive the Windows 11 22H2 release in June 2023 (previously May). This will be offered and installed on their devices with 4.17 dot release. Devices that are not eligible due to an incompatible processor will continue to use Windows 10 per Windows hardware support policy. These devices will be offered Windows 10 22H2 release.

Devices that cannot upgrade to Windows 11 will continue to be supported until the end of Windows 10 End of servicing for General Availability Channel or hardware support from OEM, whichever comes first. Windows 10 releases information atWindows 10 release information. Please note, not all Windows releases are supported for Teams Rooms, to find supported version, see Microsoft Teams Rooms app version support.

In addition, Teams Rooms on Windows OEMs will shift their manufacturing to Windows 11 IoT Enterprise as Windows 10 IoT Enterprise end of license sales is fast approaching (10/14/2023). OEMs with existing Windows 10 licenses inventory (or to support recovery media for existing Windows 10 based devices) may continue to provide Windows 10 based images for some time that should automatically update to Windows 11 post setup. All OEMs are expected to move to Windows 11 IoT Enterprise based images in future. Customers should ensure all new hardware purchases check for Windows 11 compatibility to future proof their device investment.

(Updated) Avatars for Microsoft Teams MC533652 · Published Mar 27, 2023 · Last updated Jun 26, 2023

Updated June 26, 2023: We are expanding the licensing for avatars for Teams to be available to additional Teams commercial customers, so more users have the flexibility on how they represent themselves in meetings. Avatars for Teams will be available for Teams Essentials, Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, Microsoft 365 E3/E5, and Office 365 E1/E3/E5. A day of hybrid meetings can be exhausting, and we believe more users having access to avatars for Teams will give you that much-needed camera break, while still allowing you to collaborate effectively.

Note: If you are using any other SKU, you will not be able to use Avatars in meetings, even if you have previously installed the Avatars app. To avoid confusion and potential errors, we recommend that Teams admins block the Avatars app for users who are not in the supported SKUs. You can do this by following the instructions here: Set up avatars for Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn. If you do not have a supported SKU for Avatars, you will still be able to see the Avatar feeds of other users who do have supported SKUs, but you will not be able to create your own Avatar or use it in a meeting.

Avatars for Microsoft Teams gives you that much-needed camera break, while still allowing you to collaborate effectively. You can add a new layer of choice to your meetings and represent yourself the way you want with customizable avatars and reactions.

Represent yourself the way you want with customizable avatars and reactions. Save up to three avatars for different meeting types, such as casual, professional, and day to day. Note that Avatars for Microsoft Teams is designed for users 18+.
