(Updated) Virtual Appointment as a new Teams Meeting Template MC488588 · Published Dec 20, 2022 · Last updated Jan 12, 2023

Updated January 12, 2023: We have updated the message to show as intended. Thank you for your patience.

A new Teams Meeting Template, Virtual Appointment, will be added as a new template type accessible from the 'New meeting' dropdown menu in the Teams Calendar. This is an included experience that brings enhanced business-to-consumer meeting features into the lightweight and familiar Teams scheduling experience. When meeting with someone from outside of your organization, the Virtual Appointment meeting can be used to ensure the person you are meeting with has a seamless experience with the meeting from start to finish - all without having to learn new tools or leave the standard scheduling flow.

Users can use the Virtual Appointment template instead of a standard Teams meeting for meetings with external users. They can select the meeting type, fill out the tailored scheduling form, including external guests and meeting details, and then send the meeting. The external guests invited will receive a customized meeting invitation that includes key appointment details and a quick-join button, which allows users to join the meeting from anywhere - without downloading Teams - and enter a pre-appointment waiting room before the meeting begins. This provides a familiar experience to internal users and makes external user join a seamless experience.

January 12, 2023: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

When a deck is presented via PowerPoint Live in a Microsoft Teams meeting, all meeting attendees can use the Magnify Slide feature to privately zoom into the presentation while maintaining full fidelity of the slide content. When a meeting attendee magnifies a slide, it doesn’t change how the presenter or the other meeting attendees view the slides. The “Sync to presenter” button will also appear, which allows the meeting attendee to resume following the presenter. When the meeting presenter uses the Magnify Slide feature, the zoomed in presentation content is displayed to all meeting attendees to see and follow along. The initial roll out of Magnify slide in PowerPoint Live will only be available for Microsoft Teams Desktop.

There are multiple ways to use this feature in a Teams Meeting using PPT Live:

  • Use the +/- buttons in the (…) menu
  • Use Plus or Minus keys or Shift + Plus or Shift + Minus key on the keyboard (Ensure keyboard focus is on the PowerPoint Live slideshow area)
  • Pinch or stretch on the track pad while hovering over the slide
  • Pinch or stretch on the slide using a touch screen enabled device
  • Use Ctrl + mouse wheel scroll while hovering over the slide
