Classic Microsoft Teams: The option to open
files in Teams will retire MC1058266 Published Apr 19, 2025
We will retire the option to open a file in
classic Microsoft Teams starting April 15, 2025, and ending April 30, 2025.
Instead, we recommend opening the file in the appropriate app (Microsoft Word,
Microsoft Excel, or Microsoft PowerPoint) in the desktop or web, where we will
continue to invest our development resources. This retirement is to address
certain security vulnerabilities that surfaced recently with classic Teams.
NOTE: This retirement will not affect file open options for the new version of
Microsoft Teams.
This message applies to classic Teams for
Windows desktop, classic Teams for Mac desktop, and classic Teams for the web.
This change will happen automatically by the
specified date. No admin action is required. Consider notifying your users
about this change and updating relevant internal documentation.
Microsoft Teams: Bi-directional calendar
syncing between Google Workspace and Microsoft Teams MC1058265 Published Apr 19, 2025
Businesses using Google Workspace for email and
calendaring can now enable bidirectional syncing with Microsoft Teams through
the Admin app in Teams. This improved sync ensures that events created in
either platform are seamlessly reflected in both, reducing missed meetings and
simplifying scheduling.
Previously, calendar forwarding only handled
new incoming invites. The updated sync now supports all calendar invites,
including incoming, outgoing, existing, and new events.

Microsoft Teams: Preview changes before
making them visible to attendees with "Manage what attendees see"
MC1058259 Published Apr 18, 2025
Coming soon for Microsoft Teams: A new Manage
what attendees see feature will help organizers and presenters deliver polished
town hall events by simplifying the attendee view and keeping the focus on
participants brought on screen. The new feature allows assigned organizers and
presenters to preview changes before applying them all at once.
This message applies to Teams for Windows
desktop, Teams for Mac desktop, and Teams for the web.

Microsoft Teams: Specify who can manage the
screen in town halls MC1058258 Published Apr 18, 2025
Coming soon for Microsoft Teams: A new town
hall meeting option called Who has control of production tools allows
organizers to designate who can manage the screen during the event. Assigned
individuals will be able to start the event, control what attendees see, and
end the event, for a smoother, more organized experience.
This message applies to Teams for Windows
desktop, Teams for Mac desktop, and Teams for the web.

Microsoft Teams: We will retire SMS
invitations from Teams to external partners MC1057714 Published Apr 18, 2025
Effective May 17, 2025, we will retire the option for
users to invite external partners to Microsoft Teams by sending an SMS to their
phone number to join Teams and continue the conversation. We are retiring this
feature to provide a more consistent experience. Organizations can continue to
use emails to invite partners outside of their organizations for external
teamwork.
Alternatively, customers can sign up for a
two-way SMS calling plan to continue inviting external partners to Teams by
sending an SMS to their phone number.
This change will happen automatically by the
specified date. No admin action is required. Please notify your users about
this change, update relevant documentation as appropriate, and share
alternatives for users to invite external partners to Teams.
Microsoft Teams: Use OS-level animation
settings instead of Teams-level animation settings MC1056991 Published Apr 16, 2025
We have removed the Animation setting in
Microsoft Teams. Instead, users can configure animations at the operating
system (OS) level. If users disable animations in Microsoft Windows or macOS,
Teams will honor that preference. This means users no longer need a separate
setting in Teams to control animations. We will not reinstate the Teams-level
animation control. Moving forward, Teams will rely entirely on the OS setting
for animation preferences.
This message applies to Teams for Windows
desktop, Teams for Mac desktop, and Teams for the web.
General Availability (Worldwide): Available

Microsoft Teams: Streamlined unified
Role-Based Access Controls (RBAC) for Teams device management MC1056977 Published Apr 16, 2025
We are releasing Role-Based Access Control
(RBAC) enhancements in the Teams Rooms Pro management portal (PMP). As part of
our ongoing efforts to improve device management across portals, we will be
extending PMP's RBAC to support additional Entra built-in roles currently
available in the Teams admin center (TAC). This transition aims to provide a
seamless experience for admins managing Teams Rooms devices.

Microsoft Teams: Detect sensitive content
shared in meetings MC1056976 Published Apr 16, 2025
Coming soon to Microsoft Teams Premium: A new
tenant-level feature called Detect sensitive content during screen sharing that
will be on by default to proactively analyze onscreen content and alert meeting
organizers, co-organizers, and presenter to any risk of exposure. This feature
helps you build a shield of trust and security around your organization. When
this feature is on at the tenant level, meeting organizers and co-organizers
will still need to enable the feature at the meeting level. Admins can disable
the feature at the tenant level if desired.
This message applies to Teams for Windows
desktop, Teams for the web, and Teams for iOS/Android.
A Teams Premium license is required to use this
feature.

Organizers, co-organizers, and presenters in a
Microsoft Teams town hall will soon be able to join and view the event from an
attendee's perspective.
This feature will be available for customers
who have access to town hall in Teams for Windows or Mac desktop, Teams for the
web, or Teams for iOS/Android.
This message is associated with Microsoft 365
Roadmap ID 484126.
Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out
mid-May 2025 and expect to complete by late May 2025.

Microsoft Teams Premium: Ultra-low latency
(ULL) attendee experience for town halls MC1056268 Published Apr 15, 2025
Before this rollout, Microsoft Teams town hall
attendees typically watch the presentation with a 20-30 second delay. After
this rollout, with ultra-low latency (ULL), attendees will be able to view and
participate in a town hall at a much lower latency than before, ensuring they
are in sync with content being shared by presenters and organizers.
This feature is available for town hall
organizers with a Teams Premium license. This feature will only be available
for tenants who use the Microsoft eCDN (Enterprise Content Delivery Network) or
who do not have an eCDN provider.
This message applies to Teams for Windows
desktop, Teams for Mac desktop, Teams for the web, and Teams for iOS and
Android.

Microsoft Teams admin center: Improvements to
controls for Microsoft 365 Copilot MC1055552 Published Apr 15, 2025
Coming soon: Improvements to the controls for
Microsoft 365 Copilot and transcripts in the Microsoft Teams admin center
(TAC). This rollout aims to reduce complexity and prevent conflicting states
for those controls, to help provide a smoother experience for admins and users.
This rollout will help prevent issues such as Copilot requiring a transcript
when Transcript is Off, resulting in error messages for users that cannot be
resolved.
The feature described in this message is
available to all admins in the TAC, but error messages only occur for Teams
users who also have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We began
rolling out early April 2025 and expect to complete by late May 2025.
Microsoft Teams: The "Code
snippets" feature for chats and channels will retire MC1055554 Published Apr 15, 2025
We will retire the code snippets feature for
chats and channels from Microsoft Teams starting May 30, 2025 and ending June
16, 2025. We made this decision to streamline our development efforts and
enhance the overall user experience by focusing on code blocks, which are
faster and more efficient, allowing users (mainly developers) to create, edit,
and share code directly in the compose box without needing a title. Code blocks
offer almost all the features of code snippets, except for line numbers. We will
be adding line numbers to code blocks in the coming months. Also, code blocks
will soon be viewable on mobile devices, ensuring that users can access and
collaborate on code from anywhere.
This message applies to Teams for Windows
desktop. Teams for Mac desktop, and Teams for the web.
Users will no longer be able to create code
snippets after the feature retires, but all previously sent code snippets will
remain accessible in Teams. Users will not be able to create new code
snippets after May 30, 2025.
This change will happen automatically by the
specified date. No admin action is required. Please notify your users about
this change, update relevant documentation as appropriate, and share the code
blocks alternative.
