(Updated) Teams Room Windows: Simplified
Device Registration Process for Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal
MC565156
· Published May 31, 2023 · Last updated Jun 9, 2023
Updated June 9, 2023: Pro portal enrollment
will only work for devices that are in commercial cloud and not GCC-H – thus
once the Pro Management agent is successfully installed and connected, devices
with the Teams Rooms Pro license will be automatically enrolled and visible on
the Pro Management portal.
We are pleased to announce an enhancement to
the device registration process for Windows-based Teams Rooms devices on the
Pro Management portal, aimed at making it more convenient for IT admins.
With the upcoming Teams Rooms app update (v.
4.17) scheduled for release by the end of June 2023, we have streamlined the
registration process for Windows-based Teams Rooms devices. IT admins will no
longer need to manually download and install the Pro Management agent on each
device.
Instead, the Pro Management agent will be
automatically downloaded and installed onto the Windows-based Teams Rooms
devices as part of the Teams Rooms app update. This improvement simplifies the
agent deployment and device enrollment tasks for IT admins, reducing their
workload.
Once the Pro Management agent is successfully
installed and connected, devices with the Teams Rooms Pro license will be automatically
enrolled and visible on the Pro Management portal. This eliminates the need for
any additional user action, making the process more efficient.
We understand the importance of a seamless and
hassle-free device registration experience for IT admins. This update aims to
improve the overall management process and reduce friction when connecting
Windows-based Teams Rooms devices to the Pro Management portal.
Stay tuned for the upcoming Teams Rooms app
update (v. 4.17) to
take advantage of the simplified device registration process and enhance your
device management capabilities with the Pro Management service.
(Updated) Microsoft Teams: Updating the
Bookings app to the Virtual Appointments app MC560731
· Published May 24, 2023 · Last updated Jun 9, 2023
Updated June 8, 2023: We have updated the
rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience..
Bookings is supported across multiple entry
points spanning Web, Teams and Outlook, however there is lack of parity in the
feature set across these entry points leading to an inconsistent user
experience. This fragmented experience has resulted in high DSAT for customers
that has provided feedback to Microsoft to unify and provide feature parity in
Bookings across all entry points.
The Bookings experience in Teams will soon be
updated to match the web version on https://book.ms,
ensuring consistent features across all endpoints. However, certain features
like Forms, Queuing & scheduler-initiated SMS reminders for appointments
will be available only on the new Virtual Appointments app on Teams.
With the Virtual Appointments app, we are
introducing an end-to-end B2C meetings solution that leverages Bookings as the
scheduling engine and includes advanced meetings features such as real time
meeting state update, chat with attendees in waiting room lobby via Queue view,
rich analytics to shows virtual appointment usage trends to drive business
outcomes such as no-shows.
With this change, the updated Bookings Teams
app will have feature parity and consistent user experience as Bookings web
app. Virtual Appointments app will be a superset of the current Bookings Teams
app experience embedded within the new app and will include advanced virtual
appointments features.
This feature is associated with Microsoft
Roadmap ID 120420
Rollout will begin in mid-July (previously late
June) and is expected to be complete by late July (previously early
July).

(Updated) New Microsoft Teams Continuous Web
Logs Extend the Window for Troubleshooting MC555189
· Published May 15, 2023 · Last updated Jun 8, 2023
Updated June 8, 2023: We have updated the
timing outlined below. Thank you for your patience.
Debug log files are automatically produced by
the Microsoft Teams client, which can aid in monitoring and troubleshooting
Teams. Also known as “Web logs”, Debug logs have historically been constrained
by a limited memory buffer. If not collected by the user immediately after an
issue occurs, the “signature” of the issue may not be present in the Debug
logs, making it more difficult to resolve recent and future issues.
This is being addressed with Continuous Web
Logs (CWL). With CWL enabled, once the in-memory buffer reaches the limit, log
lines will be saved to a file on user's machine extending the log capturing
window up to one business day for an average user, providing a significantly
larger window for troubleshooting.
CWL is available to all tenants, but currently
disabled by default. Teams' admins are able to turn it on using either of these
methods:
- Assigning TeamsMediaLoggingPolicy via PowerShell cmdlets
- Setting a Feature Flag enableContinuousWebClientLogging to True.
This can be done with assistance from Microsoft. As a temp solution,
{enableContinuousWebClientLogging: true} can be added to hooks.json
locally for the user. This will override the ECS setting for the user and
enable CWL.
Soon, Teams admins will have an additional
option to enable CWL from the Teams admin center.
During June, 2023, CWL will become the default for Teams users
with the following desktop system specifications:
- Intel Core i3 and Core i5 (generation 10 or higher), Core i7 and
Core i9 (any generation) excluding the following series: U, Y, G1-G7, UE,
UL, M, QM
- Intel Xeon
- AMD Ryzen 5, 7, 9 and TR models excluding U series
- Apple Silicon (all series of M1 and M2 chips)
Admins may use the methods listed above to
enable CWL for Teams users with lesser system specifications. CWL will not be
enabled by default for all machines to avoid the potential for user impact on
lower-end devices.

(Updated) Changes in Normalization MC536885
· Published Apr 4, 2023 · Last updated Jun 7, 2023
Updated June 7, 2023: We have updated the
content below for clarity. Thank you for your patience.
Stopping normalization on number that starts
with plus sign (+)
Normalization in Microsoft Teams was not
designed to do normalization when the phone number starts with plus sign (+) as
documented, but we've never enforced this in the Teams desktop or Web client.
We are planning to enforce this in the future but for now we recommend avoiding
this pattern.
We are making this change to align with our
Calling Service, other Teams services, Azure Communication Services SDKs, and
other Microsoft services. Numbers that start with a plus sign (+) will not pass
through any normalization rules.
Translated numbers that do not start with a
plus sign (+), will pass through normalization rules more than once. Please see
Create and manage dial plans for more information.

(Updated) Microsoft Viva: Auto-Categorization

· Published Apr 26, 2023 · Last updated Jun 9, 2023
Updated June 8, 2023: We have updated the
rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.
Meeting category insights in the Viva Insights
app helps Viva Insights licensed users understand how they are allocating their
time across meeting categories. Today, the feature uses the categories manually
assigned by users in Outlook and Teams. In an upcoming update, meeting category
insights will begin automatically categorizing meetings for users based on
meeting size, cadence, and number of people in the meetings. Categories
include:
- Long meetings – More than 1 hour long and 0-8 invitees
- Large meetings – At least 9 invitees and at most 1 hour long
- Large and long meetings – At least 9 invitees and more than 1 hour
long
- Recurring meetings – Meeting series with multiple instances
- 1:1 meetings – Include 1 other participant
These categories can help users identify
meetings that are expensive in terms of time spent, participants included, or
both. Using these insights, users can assess whether meetings that fall under
this category are a valuable use of time and resources as a step towards doing
more with less.
Categorizations will show up in Viva Insights
only and will not reflect in Outlook or Teams calendar.
With this update, users who are not currently
categorizing in Outlook or Teams will be able to access meeting category
insights and begin developing an understanding of how their meeting time is
being spent. Users who are already categorizing will receive additional
insights about their meeting time allocation according to well-known meeting
attributes.
